    gps_satellite_nasa_72.jpgWhat is GPS ?

Utilizing a constellation of at least 24 medium earth orbit satellites that transmit precise radio signals, the Global Positioning System (GPS) enables a receiver to determine its location, speed and direction of travel. This system, originally created by the US military, is now available for public use. And it is free, all you need is a GPS receiver.

A GPS receiver calculates its position by measuring the distance between itself and three or more GPS satellites. Measuring the time delay between transmission and reception of each GPS radio signal gives the distance to each satellite, since the signal travels at a known speed. The signals also carry information about the satellite’s location. By determining the position of, and distance to, at least three satellites, the receiver can compute its position. A GPS reading is extremely accurate, often to within ten feet depending on the terrain and obstructions.

GPS coordinates represent the latitude and longitude of a particular point on earth. It is this information that we place on our Happitude GPS wear to represent your particular Happitude location. All of our hats and t-shirts are essentially one of a kind custom designs. There is no place quite like yours.
